Ph. D. (Tech.) Thesis - UTILISATION OF RICEBRAN OIL
Low-FFA as well as high-FFA ricebran oil samples were tested for various applications. Several margarine-base formulations were prepared using low-FFA ricebran oil as sole fat source. Partially hydrogenated, fully hydrogenated as well as interesterified ricebran oil samples were used for these formulations. The margarine bases and margarines prepared from them were evaluated and optimum formulations were finalised. High-FFA ricebran oil was esterified with octyl and 2-ethyl hexyl alcohols. The esterified products were sulfated, sulfurized and epoxidized and were evaluated for fat-liquoring of leather, as lubricant, as lubricant additives and secondary plasticizers, respectively

M. Sc. (Tech.) Thesis - STUDIES IN ANTIOXIDANTS FOR VEGETABLE OILS
Spice oils viz. Clove, Basil, Ajowan and Anise oils were tested for their antioxidant properties in groundnut oil and soybean oil. The major components of these oils were also similarly tested. Their activity was compared with standard synthetic antioxidants currently used. The essential oils were found to be good antioxidants in some cases. The activity seemed to be different for different vegetable oils.

B. Sc. (Tech.) Thesis - ALKYD RESINS FROM KARANJA OIL FATTY ACIDS
Fatty acids obtained from the nonconventional oil called Karanja (Pongamia glabra) oil were used to make alkyd resins of different oil lengths. The resulting alkyds were tested for various properties. Most of them were found to be suitable for applications requiring oven-curing.

* Won middle-school scholarship in 4th stadard.
* Won several scholarships and merit prizes at school and college.
* Completed several certificate courses in Sanskrut, Hindi and English.
* Participated in Science Exhibition at Fergusson College, Pune, and won prizes for the projects displayed.
* Participated in drama competitions and won prize at Pune University Youth Festival in 1983 at Jalgaon.
* Won prizes in Marathi elocution competitions at UDCT, Mumbai.
* Member of Managing Committee of 'Manthan', cultural society at UDCT, Mumbai, during 1987 - 1989.
* Elected member of Managing Committee of Technological Association at UDCT, Mumbai, and worked as Journal Secretary and a member of the Editorial Board of the yearly technical publication 'Bombay Technologist' during 1988 - 1992. Also worked as a member of Constitution Redrafting Committee of the Association.

Publications
* Presented several talks on 'Science and Technology Review' on All India Radio, Mumbai, during 1990 - 1992.
* Published several articles on new scientific developments in various Marathi language periodicals - Ekata, Vivek, Vanasthali, Sadhana - during 1990 - 1993.
* Published over 75 technocommercial, review and research papers in various journals including one paper in the international monthly 'Inform'(USA) in 1993.
* Contributed a technocommercial chapter on oleochemicals in the book 'Treatise on Fats, Fatty Acids and Oleochemicals' which was published in 1995.

Historical Research
* Carried out a two-year research on 'How the Hindu king Shivaji escaped from the clutches of Moghul emperor Aurangzeb at Agra in 1666 AD' and published a book - Agryahun Sutka - in Marathi language in 1997. This book has won two literary awards. A web site dedicated to this subject is being created at AGRA ESCAPE.
* Currently involed in research on the origin of Chitpavan Brahmins in Maharashtra, with Dr. Jagannath Dixit of USA. The book on this topic will be published in early 2003. Progress of this research as well as excerpts of the forthcoming book are available at CHITPAVANS.
* Delivered several public lectures on the historical topic of the book - Agryahun Sutka, which many historians, researchers as well as people in different walks of life have appreciated.
